Truro Parks & Gardens

A vist to Truro would not be complete without experiencing some of the wonderful parks and gardens that Truro has to offer especially as Truro has been put forward to compete in the National Britain in Bloom finals.

Here are a few introductory notes covering some of these wonderful spaces.

Boscawen Park

Boscawen Park is in a  lovely position on the banks of the Truro River about a mile outside the City Centre.

This is the place for sports lovers: with cricket pitches, tennis courts and football pitches, as well as arriver walk with exercise equipment. The park also has landscaped gardens bursting with floral displays in the summer, perfect for lazing the day away. Nearby is the duck pond, an area maintained with wildlife in mind which has a lovely path around its perimeter, perfect for a relaxing stroll.

Victoria Gardens

Victoria Gardens were created in 1898 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

They are located just a few minutes walk from the City Centre and offer ab oasis of green tranquility amidst the bustle. Hidden amongst the exotic shrubs, flowers and trees, you can find waterfalls, picnic areas and playgrounds. Nearby is the fountain which was originally in Boscawen Street and moved to the gardens shortly after they opened.

The bandstand plays host to brass bands most Sundays in the summer.

A dominating feature of the gardens is the viaduct that carries the main railway line. Five piers from the original Brunel-designed viaduct still stand, a remnant of the structure that was built in 1859 but replaced in 1902.
